Spring is upon us and hopefully summer is right around the corner which means it’s time to stock up on chunky heeled sandals for work and for play. This round up shows some of the colors and textures I am hoping to find to make the seamless transition from work to evening outdoor cocktails.

There was a deluge on my way to work this morning and while I love my parka, it just didn’t do what I needed it to do. So in an effort to avoid ever having the spend the first 2 hours of work soaking wet, I found and fell in love with the rain cape. Chic and easy, perfect for a rainy morning or as an extra layer for unexpected spring showers.

I am all about layering, especially due to the fact that my office temperature ranges anywhere from see-your-breath frigid to sweat-your-eyebrows-off sweltering — so in the winter it requires some serious laying mathematics. I love this look with the oxford, chambray and cardigan, it’s very me, yet still office and even client appropriate. Plus I love leopard loafers with patterned pants!

It’s hard to believe that I survived a week with no power, water or internet but I did! Sandy took a toll in NYC but other than a week of discomfort, I came out pretty much unscathed. Others are not so lucky and lost homes, cars and even loved ones. My heart goes out to everyone effected by the storm.

Everyone here in NYC is hunkering down and waiting out this hurricane/huri-carnage/Frankenstorm. I have lots of food, snacks and buckets of water, just in case the power goes out. Here’s hoping the island of Manhattan doesn’t float away.

I have a pretty standard routine every morning where I wake up, take a shower and then check the weather so I can dress accordingly. Thanks to the weather app on my iPhone I am usually pretty spot on, except for the occasional umbrella. This printable weather chart though is so cute and could add both a nice touch to my apartment and a fun addition to the morning, or maybe evening, routine.

The vest of both seasons

Fall has definitely come to NYC and some days it has felt cold enough to believe that winter is really right around the corner. So in an effort to enjoy the little bit of fall that we will inevitably have, I have been wearing vests, all the time! Rather than going and pulling out all my warmer jackets, vests keep me warm, allow me to layer (which is key for work where it could be 30 degrees in the office of 80) and I still feel like I look cute. I have been wearing my favorite J.Crew puffy black vest from years ago but I love the idea of a bright color or interesting print.

It has been raining off and on for the last few days, and putting me in anything but a good mood. Only thing I can think of at this point that would cheer me up would be a bright yellow slicker, my hunter boots and some major puddles.

I am totally a hat person any time of year but winter hats are not only a statement but an essential during New York City winters. Instead of your run of the mill beanies and berets, I really like the idea of these more classic fedoras and dunaway hats. Especially this one from Urban Outfitters, which is going to be on it’s way to my house very soon!

It’s bedtime

All I’ve wanted to do after I’ve showered and gotten dressed the past few mornings is get back in bed. I’m not sure if it’s daylight savings or what but it seems I am just pooped all the time. I am seriously hoping for down time this weekend — and how cozy does this lounge outfit look? It’s perfect for me because my feet and arms always get cold, but my legs are like hot stick! I couldn’t have said it better Roberta, ”there is…something so blissful and comforting about cuddling up indoors in the cooler months.”
