things I can’t live without

*this was a series I used to write on this blog before it became an integral part of my life

**I get very excited over things, and I am one to announce to the world that these things play such a vital role in my life that I am not only amazed and astonished by them, but I truly can’t live without them.  Here’s something I love and why I love it.

Day “6″: iTunes Genius playlists and mixes

By now everyone and their mother, including my mother, has an iPhone or iPod and are all in some way, shape or form in love with the features. For me, my new iPod Ttouch has a ton to offer. It’s small and sleek, it has great apps, it’s big enough for all my music and all my pictures…I could go on all day. But the feature that I absolutely love, and freak out quietly inside every single morning, is the Genius Mixes that my iPod creats all by itself.

My iPod must know me so well, and yet we are only very newly acquainted. I got it a few weeks back, synced up my music right away and BAM! there were these amazing mixes and playlists of my favorite songs by my favorite artists! Who could ask for anything more. And to top it off, if I don’t like the “Adult Alternative Pop Mix” or the “Grunge Mix” I can go in and choose any song from my entire library and create a playlist on the fly that I can even save for future enjoyment. Sheer delight I tell you, every single morning that I put my earbuds into my ears. Sheer delight!

Sesame street tweets

Sesame Street Muppets Group

I used to call Sesame Street YaYaz, I’m still not sure why but I think it had to do with how young I was when I started watching it. (I probably couldn’t pronounce Sesame as an 18 month old!) It was my favorite show as a kid a it still holds a significant place in my heart and in the heart of my entire family. My recent online obsession is the Sesame Street gangs’ tweets — they are absolutely hilarious and I really feel like they highlight what is so special about Sesame Street and all of Jim Henson’s creations. The humor used is smart and clever so that adults can truly appreciate it and at the same time the characters are so cute and adorable that kids just fall in love!

  • Big Bird: It’s hard for me to type these tweets. Keyboards aren’t made for those of us with wings.

  • Grover: Today I thought of something very clever to tweet about. This is it.

  • Bert has more than 368 bottle caps in his highly-treasured collection. #sesamefacts

  • Elmo: Someone just told Elmo yesterday was Talk in the Third Person Day. Elmo doesn’t know what that is but it sounds fun. Can Elmo play?

  • Cookie Monster: Me had philosophical moment: what if there no such thing as cookies? What would dat make me? Dis stuff keep me up at night.

  • Big Bird: Maria made me a new cross-stitch pillow for my home. It says “Nest Sweet Nest” on it.

  • Grover: Today I am feeling a bit fuzzy. And a little blue. But then, I am always Fuzzy and Blue!

  • Cookie Monster: Sometimes Moon look like giant cookie. Must look into joining space program.

  • Grover: Did you hear? There is a monster at the end of this Tweet! I am so afraid! But we are almost done and the only monster here is…me!

    • Grover: Oh, I am so embarrassed!

Need…

Jazzi McG named hers ‘Food’, we NEED food. So there Mom! (Rational thinking must not be genetic!)

Oh, PS: Brilliant animated gif Ms. McG!

Help me be fabulous!

Thanks to greedy girl I have found the dress I want to wear to my brother’s wedding, and the dress that I would preferably like to wear every single day for the rest of my life! The Mushira Dress from NOT JUST A LABEL is the most amazing dress in the entire world. It is perfect for the lighthearted, full of life and love-type wedding that Noah and Leila are planning.

And to top it all off this is what the designer has to say about the dress:

Mushira means Bride in Ethiopian….: The Mushira dress was inspired by the bride from Ethiopia and the singer Ebony Bones. Draped and cut in London, it is a one of a kind piece. Both inspiration and materials were sourced from Ethiopia, Nigeria and London (Dalston, Ridley market). I tried to express how my heritage changes and how I observe Western Culture.

Could it be any more perfect?

Give to Haiti first, but then give to me! I am accepting donations to help make me the fabulous sister-of-the-groom that my brother and future sister-in-law deserve for their happy day!

On the 4th day of Hanukkah

My Hanukkah dreams came true this year! The one gift I asked my family and friends for were matching hangers. (I have had this desire to have everything in my closet hung on the same hangers, for years!) This Hanukkah I got hundreds (literally) of these slim, velvety, black hangers and love how they look!

Queen of wishful thinking

While I would gladly accept any (read all) of the gifts below, I think these are great gift ideas for the special people in your life!

(from left to right)

1. Pencil Chopsticks at MOMA: Food is such a creative outlet, and pencil chopsticks give you a chance to quickly jot down any mealtime inspirations

2. UO 3D Chandelier: Everyone can always use a little more light. This chandelier is functional and nontraditional

3. Amazon Kindle: Perfect for the ADD reader who reads multiple books at once. The kindle makes life much lighter than carrying around the whole library

4. Calendar Bracelet by Dalla Nonna: A perfect mix of leather and metal. This bracelet is an easy way to count down to the big day

5. Ren ring by Japanese jeweler Yuki Kamia: Two-finger rings make for a great piece of statement jewelery. I love the fluidity. It’s definitely not your average “Lauren Conrad” ring

6. Jonathan Adler Needlepoint Pillows: Take a vacation while you rest your head on fun getaway pillows

7. Picture Frame Vinyl Decals: Show your support for the vendors and artists on Etsy. This would help any who is ‘hanging challenged’, like me

8. Ashish for Topshop Leopard Wedges: Jungle fever in freezing weather is a great way to add to a look and keep your feet warm (Jeffrey Campbell for LF wedge booties would work too!)

Illusions of grandeur

Two things that never cease to inspire me to dream and fantasize about the future — the great outdoors and great art.

Thanksgiving Thanks

Thank_you_small

It’s that time of year when we think about what we are thankful for. My list is topped with things like my family, amazing friends, fabulous apartment and the ability to do, feel, say, think, breathe, smell, touch, believe and see nearly everything I want. But I decided to share the more personal (read original, quirky and material-centric) things I am thankful for:

- Flowery RL sheets. They make me feel girly, they are incredibly soft and they make me happy each time I hop in bed

- Practicing yoga. Pure Yoga is an amazing studio and I love the teachers and all the classes there. I have also love practicing at The Shala

- Tytin Steve Madden boots that add the perfect hardness to my dresses, skirts and tights and shorts

- Poladroid for both my amazing LeahBrier.com banner and for the great sound effects the come from the beta application

- My signature Swatch time piece. It has the perfect amount of bling, and it’s still really light

- Three-in-one by American Apparel: onesie, high waist pants and comfy harem pants

- Metal Pointus. Noah and Leila introduced me to this amazing jewelry last year for Hanukkah and I have been obsessed since

- RIM and Blackberry for bringing me my Bold

- Etsy for providing hours of treasure hunting and a place to buy amazing handmade crafts

- Delicious, Flatiron lunch establishment Energy Kitchen. Their food is insanely good and everything is under 500 calories

- The blogs that I read daily, and the bloggers who write them. Thanks to Noah, Jackie, Emily, Joanna, R29, Rumi, Geri and Jak & Jill

Have a Happy Thanksgiving. Be back on Monday

Young and the restless

I have been feeling restless and having trouble finding inspiration. I decided to cheer myself up, and get out of the little pouty hole I have fallen into, by looking at some pictures that make me smile, make me happy and remind me of the beauty and art all around us!

It’s a gloomy day, perfect for a photo pick-me-up. Enjoy!

PS: Have I mentioned my current obsession with Poladroid?
