History of Rap

Clearly it’s the week of the youtube video for me, so in an effort to stick with the theme I’m sharing another favorite video. It’s the combination of elements that creates the amazing end result — JT, Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, what could be better than that?!

Filled with Glee

I have to admit that I am serious obsessed with the show Glee. I’ve always loved a capella music, but Glee has brought that to a new level. The voices are amazing, the lead character is a neurotic Jew, and her real name is Lea, and their song choices are out of control. In addition to singing ‘The time of my life’ and ‘Valerie’ at sectionals on Tuesday’s episode, they also sang one of my favorites, ‘The dog days are over’. It was just another amazing performance and another reason you have to tune in and start watching!

If you haven’t watched the show, Gawker has great rundowns of all the episodes (like this one for Tuesday’s episode).

The Weepies

I have been listening to a lot of music lately, specifically Pandora on my phone/new ipod touch! I have fallen more in love with Imogen Heap, started craving songs by Ingrid Michaelson and discovered The Weepies. They are a folk band and I just love their soft melodic songs. It makes me think about my mom, a folky-hippie at heart, and growing up listening to classics like Jim Kweskin Jug Band and Peter, Paul and Mary. The Weepies have the great combination of old-world folk guitar strumming and great lyrics. Take a listen and let me know what you think!
