“Like tying your shoes, this knotted style is as easy as one, two, three.”
I tried this style on Saturday and believe it or not I was both able to pull it off and not look like a total crazy lady! It’s a nice way to get hair out of my face and off my neck for those warmer summer days.
Now that summer is in full force in New York (high of 88 today) it’s time to find some hair alternatives for those days when a big, frizzy mess isn’t the look I am going for. While I have said time and time again (here, here and here) that my hair styling abilities liken those of an animal without thumbs, this sock bun looks simple enough and I think it’s worth a try!
These four braids are said to be easy enough a rookie can do them. Well, here’s the test because when it comes to braids I am about the biggest rookie there is! I am dying to try the ‘milk maid’ and ‘around the head’!
I saw this super quick and apparently easy hair style on Refinery29 just before New Years Eve and when I tried it I failed miserably — this is usually the case as I am completely hair illiterate. But the other day when I was feel sloppy and tired just before work I decided to pair my super simple white button down and jeans with this hair and I can’t tell you how many compliments I got! It was awesome. If I can do it anyone can!
Because I thrive on the feeling of being on the cutting edge, talking about things before other people and just being all around awesome…I thought I would share with you a video posted by Geri over at Because I’m Addicted about the perfect bun. Just in case you were wondering why this makes me so excited, I talked about buns, my go-to hair style for fall/winter, on Monday, 9/26!
PS: I know what you’re thinking….”who cares?!!?!?”, right? Well simple things get me very excited, sue me!
I have to say that after a week away the city welcomed me back with an absolutely perfect hair day yesterday. Even with the increasing humidity and threat of showers my hair stayed shiny, straight and frizz-free. And when it got a little too hot in the bar during the Bears game, I managed to pul off the perfect top knot. Seems as though my hair is getting to the right length for the effortless messy bun that I love so much. I officially have my go-to hair style for the fall. It’s also great for those days when taking a shower and/or blow drying and straightening isn’t an option!
I like pretty much anything ombre (including these tights, this cake and these nails), there’s something about the gradient color that I think is both really chic and really edgy. But lately instead of looking for tops and tights I have been thinking about the ever present ombre hair and whether I could pull it off. I have dyed my hair only a few times in my life and my favorite has always been when I’ve gone jet black (although my mother hates it). Maybe this is a way to appease my need for a dye job and her desire to not have an Elvira lookalike as a daughter!
It seems hair tutorials are all the rage right now and as obsessed I am with all of these braided variations (here, here and here) I am so handicapped in the hair department that looking at these photos still make it impossible for me to recreate the hairstyle. I wasn’t sure if it was just the medium so I checked out this fishtail braid how-to video by Free People…but lo and behold not only is my hair is too short but my hands too ill equipped for anything fancier than a ponytail (even this one)…major bummer.
I’ve never been one able to could go a few days without washing my hair even though I love the idea of not having to blow dry everyday. My hair gets flat and kind of gross after a day mostly because when I wear it down I play with it constantly. I finally bought a can Klorane Dry Shampoo and tried it this morning and now I can see what all the fuss is about. The spray dried up any oil I had at my roots and even gave my hair a little bounce and body. I think it will take some practice though, I may have sprayed a little too close and because the spray is white and my hair is dark it took a lot of brushing to make sure my hair didn’t look gray!
I’ve hinted before that I am basically hair illiterate (here and here). I never learned any of the hair tricks that other girls know…I can’t even braid hair. But I love the idea of trying a hair do that has ‘messy’ in the name — it pretty much means you can’t screw it up, right?! I’ve been growing my hair out for awhile and part of it is because I have wanted to try this messy bun — Caroline has really long hair and that helps to achieve the look! But for now I think my hair is long enough to try this side pony (via A Cup of Jo). Thank god there are step by step instructions!
