Packing party

via clare vivier

I’m heading to Colorado for the weekend for my friend’s wedding and while I’m packing I’m realizing how much stuff I have but how little of it I actually wear, and even like for that matter. One major gap in my wardrobe is white pieces. I have a topshop burnout tee that I love and a few other crisp white pieces but overall it’s sorely lacking and it shouldn’t be because I think I look good in white no matter how pale and pasty I get in the winter. (I also love white like this, paired with simple jewelry and killer nail polish!)

Summer staples

via camp comfort

Even though Camp Comfort created this look for the 4th of July, this perfect pairing of classic and easy items is what I would love to spend the rest of my summer in. I have a few pairs of cut-off shorts and a few pairs of J.Crew chino shorts that fit amazingly well that would look perfect topped off with a fun striped shirt and a panama hat (which is on the top of my list to purchase this weekend). Tres chic!

Hide and conceal

Since the summer came so quickly I am hardly ready for shorts and mini skirts — let’s just say denim and alabaster legs isn’t really a good look for me. Not to mention I seem to have attracted all the mosquitoes in the city and now have huge welt sized bites all over my legs, and feet! So in an effort to hide my legs, when I am not trying to tan them, I am relying heavily on my maxi skirts, dresses, full pants and long onesies to keep me cool and concealed.

Not in Kansas anymore

It’s been more than a year since I lost one of my favorite shoes of all time. On my way to work I was carrying my favorite Jeffrey Campbell red patent leather ballet flats and I managed to drop one somewhere between my house and the office and didn’t notice until it was too late. Heartbroken, I searched everywhere (in New York and cyberspace) for the missing shoe but obviously the it had long since been discontinued. I had nearly give up hope in even finding a far inferior replacement until now. JCrew just released their classic ballet flat (my go to for black flats) in an array of colors, poppy being one of them. I ordered them yesterday and fingers crossed they fill the void of my beloved Dorthory-esque shoes!

I found this look browsing for some great casual weekend wear on pinterest (my new go-to for outfit inspiration) and surprisingly enough I actually have every piece I need to pull of this look with some minor changes on the blazer and shoes. I am however very envious of the bright pink zara blazer and keep seeing it everywhere — it’s taunting me to buy it!

Tying turbands

The fabulous Geri Hirsch did an amazing DIY video on three different ways to tie a silk scarf. Surprisingly enough they are as easy as they look and are as eye catching and boho cool as Geri models them. Add this to my list of things I will definitely be trying this weekend.

Swim style

I’ve been on a bathing suit kick as of late and Free People is not disappointing with their new suits for summer. I am seriously loving the Sophia top and Fonda bottom in neon orange. I love the drapey top and have to admit I would probably wear it under a loose fitting top or dress for a pop of color and added comfort!

Green with envy

I must had found my Irish roots at Zara when I purchased this dress and skirt. The emerald green items really brighten up my wardrobe, and when paired with simple, solid tops and shoes they’re great neutral items that I can wear all year round.

Ring my bell

Large, flared bellbottoms are clearly back in fashion but I’m having a difficult time embracing this trend. First, if I went back to my parents house and raided my childhood closet it would be filled with jeans just of this sort that I rocked throughout middle school and high school. And second, I’ve only just begun my transition into wearing pants again and this seems to be like a pretty extreme pant — I’m not so sure I’m ready but it certainly looks great on these women!

Wooly shorts

I’ve been drooling over knit shorts lately, specifically these Pendleton meets Opening Ceremony pair and these Kenny Guadalajara shorts. My goal is to try and find a pair without making a huge investment. So I’ve been on the hunt online but all I’ve found are these by Stolen Girlfriends Club (at Urban Outfitters) but they’re solid black and a bit pricey. I’ve seen two cute patterned pairs at Urban in the store but they seem to have disappeared. Clearly the best bet is etsy — so I’m thinking of trying these to see how they fit and if I love them I’ll continue the search.
