I like pretty much anything ombre (including these tights, this cake and these nails), there’s something about the gradient color that I think is both really chic and really edgy. But lately instead of looking for tops and tights I have been thinking about the ever present ombre hair and whether I could pull it off. I have dyed my hair only a few times in my life and my favorite has always been when I’ve gone jet black (although my mother hates it). Maybe this is a way to appease my need for a dye job and her desire to not have an Elvira lookalike as a daughter!
I’m not sure what has taken me so long to profess my love for Leandra’s blog The Man Repeller, but based on the ‘what is a man repeller’ section I think anyone who knows me shouldn’t be all that surprised:
MAN·RE·PELL·ER [MAHN-REE-PELLER] –noun
outfitting oneself in a sartorially offensive way that will result in repelling members of the opposite sex. Such garments include but are not limited to harem pants, boyfriend jeans, overalls (see: human repelling), shoulder pads, full length jumpsuits, jewelry that resembles violent weaponry and clogs. –verb (used without object),-pell·ing, -pell·ed.
to commit the act of repelling men:
Girl 1: What are you wearing to the party?
Girl 2: My sweet lime green drop crotch utility pants!
Girl 1: Oh, so we’re man repelling tonight? *DISCLAIMER: the above conversation is not a dramatization, took place in this room 5 minutes ago. Origin:
2009-10; < repellius (ptp. of repellia to eliminate male attention), equiv. to L repel- (s. of repellix) unattractive, celibate, paris fashion week, M.C. Hammer + -repel -ler1 —Related forms
man·re·pell·ant, noun
The above notwithstanding as well as the fact that I personally own green drop crotch utility pants, I just like how Leandra owns the fact that much of what is trendy in fashion is not exactly the look most men are attracted to/remotely understand. My favorite posts are the ones that show how to turn a man attracting outfit into a full blown men repelling one. Boys, eat your heart out!
I never thought I’d be a fan of the Canadian tuxedo let alone wear such an outfit on my own but I have been eyeing my favorite denim button down, which is a light wash similar to this one, and my favorite homemade COH cut-offs to potentially put together. I see it paired with my new panama hat and some sandals and I’m ready to head to Williamsburg and be one of the cool kids!! But seriously, I’m dying to try the look out — I will report back with reactions!
I’m heading to Colorado for the weekend for my friend’s wedding and while I’m packing I’m realizing how much stuff I have but how little of it I actually wear, and even like for that matter. One major gap in my wardrobe is white pieces. I have a topshop burnout tee that I love and a few other crisp white pieces but overall it’s sorely lacking and it shouldn’t be because I think I look good in white no matter how pale and pasty I get in the winter. (I also love white like this, paired with simple jewelry and killer nail polish!)
Even though Camp Comfort created this look for the 4th of July, this perfect pairing of classic and easy items is what I would love to spend the rest of my summer in. I have a few pairs of cut-off shorts and a few pairs of J.Crew chino shorts that fit amazingly well that would look perfect topped off with a fun striped shirt and a panama hat (which is on the top of my list to purchase this weekend). Tres chic!
Since the summer came so quickly I am hardly ready for shorts and mini skirts — let’s just say denim and alabaster legs isn’t really a good look for me. Not to mention I seem to have attracted all the mosquitoes in the city and now have huge welt sized bites all over my legs, and feet! So in an effort to hide my legs, when I am not trying to tan them, I am relying heavily on my maxi skirts, dresses, full pants and long onesies to keep me cool and concealed.
It’s been more than a year since I lost one of my favorite shoes of all time. On my way to work I was carrying my favorite Jeffrey Campbell red patent leather ballet flats and I managed to drop one somewhere between my house and the office and didn’t notice until it was too late. Heartbroken, I searched everywhere (in New York and cyberspace) for the missing shoe but obviously the it had long since been discontinued. I had nearly give up hope in even finding a far inferior replacement until now. JCrew just released their classic ballet flat (my go to for black flats) in an array of colors, poppy being one of them. I ordered them yesterday and fingers crossed they fill the void of my beloved Dorthory-esque shoes!
I found this look browsing for some great casual weekend wear on pinterest (my new go-to for outfit inspiration) and surprisingly enough I actually have every piece I need to pull of this look with some minor changes on the blazer and shoes. I am however very envious of the bright pink zara blazer and keep seeing it everywhere — it’s taunting me to buy it!
The fabulous Geri Hirsch did an amazing DIY video on three different ways to tie a silk scarf. Surprisingly enough they are as easy as they look and are as eye catching and boho cool as Geri models them. Add this to my list of things I will definitely be trying this weekend.
I’ve been on a bathing suit kick as of late and Free People is not disappointing with their new suits for summer. I am seriously loving the Sophia top and Fonda bottom in neon orange. I love the drapey top and have to admit I would probably wear it under a loose fitting top or dress for a pop of color and added comfort!
