In my apartment I have a huge white couch and my entire bed is outfitted with white bedding. To me that’s about as good as it gets, I love the freshness of white but there is also something really soothing and even cozy to me. But now that the temperatures are dropping at night I need something extra to snuggle up in. After seeing Joanna’s post I am tempted to give my whites a pop of color with a wooly Pendleton blanket. These are my favorites (1 and 2).

As mentioned yesterday with the change of season, and this nonstop rain, I’m feeling the need to spruce. I always like to change my bedroom as the weather gets colder because I end up spending a lot more time in bed when it’s too cold to venture out.

And I’d also like to work on my kitchen because my goal for the fall/winter is to start cooking.

The problem is that I’m lacking in the inspiration department…seriously lacking. I’m trying to figure out how to keep a space minimal and spacious but warm and cozy. It’s clearly possible, these rooms are exactly the look I’d love, but now its just about the execution.

I like pretty much anything ombre (including these tights, this cake and these nails), there’s something about the gradient color that I think is both really chic and really edgy. But lately instead of looking for tops and tights I have been thinking about the ever present ombre hair and whether I could pull it off. I have dyed my hair only a few times in my life and my favorite has always been when I’ve gone jet black (although my mother hates it). Maybe this is a way to appease my need for a dye job and her desire to not have an Elvira lookalike as a daughter!

I love this blog for the incredible design elements and how they are perfectly matched with such an amazing sense of style. PS: This simple pasta recipe looks easy enough for me to make, and definitely delicious enough for me to eat:

2 boxes quinoa pasta cooked til al dente, then drained

the juice and zest of 2 fresh lemons

1/3 cup good olive oil

1/2 cup fresh basil chopped

1/2 cup fresh flat leaf parsley chopped

6 oz fresh mozzarella pieces

coarse salt and pepper to taste

add all ingredients to a large pasta bowl, toss + enjoy!

The Coveteur stepped into the fabulous pad of long time life-partners Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan (and their dog Liberace) and now I am on a mission to find out if they are looking to adopt an adorable 25 year old girl! With all the whimsy of Adler’s design combined with the amazing fashion choices of Doonan (including a monogramed Goyard bag and collection of Gucci shoes) this New York City apartment looks like a much classier, and more expensive, adult Disney World!

Working from home as been a huge change in my life and with it comes the need for having enough self discipline to get out of bed and actually do work. One thing that helps me is setting up a specific work area. But while I love my little work nook, it leaves me with some intense office envy when I see pictures like these and dream about the day when I can lock myself in a room solely dedicated to inspiring my work.

I’m not going to say exactly how much time I spent looking at all the different rooms in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House, but let’s just say I have a few rooms memorized down to the throw pillows. While I love Amanda Nisbet’s Marylin Monroe bedroom and Celerie Kemble’s strong but elegant library I’d say my favorite has to be Jeff Lincoln’s room because of the hand drawn chalk tree and chinoiserie inspired bird. I love how the bird looks perched right on top of the fireplace!

I was reading some old posts on google reader and found out that sfgirlbybay went out and actually bought herself a teepee! I LOVE THIS IDEA! I may not have a backyard, and I certainly don’t have high enough ceilings in my apartment, but the idea of creating an adult-sized hideaway for a quiet escape or special occasion makes me smile and feel inspired! I have been using a plain plastic, see-through shower curtain for years. You need to replace it more than you would a regular curtain because it shows wear much more quickly, but it’s clean and simple and really opens the space up in my tiny bathroom. But I may be convinced to by this Izola shower curtain I saw on Refinery29. Not only is it adorable but it actually works well with my yellow and gray towel/bathmat from cb2!!

I went to BG, one of the restaurants at Bergdorf Goodman, yesterday with my mom and a family friend and really enjoyed myself. While the food was good (not worth $30+/entree) the Kelly Wearstler design was out of this world and made the whole experience worthwhile. I love Kelly’s use of color and texture, whimsy and sophistication. I think a trip to the Viceroy needs to be planned soon — for research purposes?!
