Hide and conceal

Since the summer came so quickly I am hardly ready for shorts and mini skirts — let’s just say denim and alabaster legs isn’t really a good look for me. Not to mention I seem to have attracted all the mosquitoes in the city and now have huge welt sized bites all over my legs, and feet! So in an effort to hide my legs, when I am not trying to tan them, I am relying heavily on my maxi skirts, dresses, full pants and long onesies to keep me cool and concealed.

Happy Friday

via we heart it

I am so happy it’s the weekend and a long weekend at that! I’m especially excited because the last two days have been gorgeous and if all goes well this weekend it will officially be summer in the city. Seeing that it’s Memorial Day it would also be awesome to eat some delicious burgers and dogs straight off the grill! Have a great weekend.

Carryall

I have a new project that requires me to bring my laptop with around with me. While I used to just throw it in a big tote I love the idea of my laptop as an accessory instead of an item to stow away. This French and English Confectionier’s patent buckled case is gorgeous and the neutral colors mean I could bring it with me wherever I go!

Park it

The long weekend is within spitting distance now and even though I chose to stay here I am kind of wishing someone would knock on my door with a trip to my dream hotel, the Parker Palm Springs. It’s obvious by now that I love the work of Jonathan Adler (displayed here and here), but more importantly at this point in time I love the idea of sun, consistent sun that is, heat and a big beautiful pool. If I end up disappearing you know where I am!

Jarring

I think these Mason jar meals are such a good, adorable and delicious looking idea. The creator, from the decorated cookie, sought to create a meal that could travel and stay fresh after sitting for a long period of time. I can totally see making some of these for a trip to the beach this Memorial Day weekend or a picnic in the park this summer!

Here’s are some pointers for how you can to make your own:

Put dressings and heavy items on the bottom, foods to stay crisp and fresh at the top. For the salad, I mixed the dressing with the chick peas at the bottom to keep them away from the lettuce. Barriers help, like my layer of cucumber slices. For the pasta, I figured the tomatoes would add moisture (for mixing) and acidity (to prevent browning) to the pesto, so I put them together. And I left space at the top of each for shaking and mixing.

Happy Friday

There’s not much on my agenda for the weekend, and that is exactly what I want. Dinner Friday, brunch Saturday and spin Sunday, that’s it. Otherwise, I plan on hanging out in bed (perfect picture, right?) and probably eating some delicious snacks!

Not in Kansas anymore

It’s been more than a year since I lost one of my favorite shoes of all time. On my way to work I was carrying my favorite Jeffrey Campbell red patent leather ballet flats and I managed to drop one somewhere between my house and the office and didn’t notice until it was too late. Heartbroken, I searched everywhere (in New York and cyberspace) for the missing shoe but obviously the it had long since been discontinued. I had nearly give up hope in even finding a far inferior replacement until now. JCrew just released their classic ballet flat (my go to for black flats) in an array of colors, poppy being one of them. I ordered them yesterday and fingers crossed they fill the void of my beloved Dorthory-esque shoes!

Product placement

If I could be sponsored by one item it would be the Vera Bradley Curling Iron Cover — hands down! I have had the same one (in the classic and retired ‘americana red’) since my junior year of college and I can’t part with it. I bought it at Crabtree & Evelyn and when they stopped selling them, and it seemed that Vera Bradley had stopped making them, I agreed to hold on to mine no matter how worn and torn it was. Low and behold they are once again available and I intend to purchase at least one…and maybe and extra for good measure!

I found this look browsing for some great casual weekend wear on pinterest (my new go-to for outfit inspiration) and surprisingly enough I actually have every piece I need to pull of this look with some minor changes on the blazer and shoes. I am however very envious of the bright pink zara blazer and keep seeing it everywhere — it’s taunting me to buy it!

Fresh blooms

Peonies are in season and can be found on every corner in every bodega in the city. I picked up a few a week or so ago and they opened and lasted a lot longer than I thought. I love how delicate the petals and the varied pinks you can find. They bright up the room and make me smile every time I sit down at my computer.
