And if you want to be free, be free

I saw Harold and Maude a few years ago with my mom and wasn’t paying enough attention to really appreciate it. Not only is the soundtrack written by Cat Stevens, an all time favorite of mine, but the story is totally screwed up and incredibly entertaining.

I’m not going to go into a whole synopsis of the story (if you haven’t seen it you absolutely must!), but I am going to say that because it was so hot out on Sunday I got to spend a lazy day inside and watch the entire movie. It may be dark and sometimes pretty sick (and undoubtedly made in the 1970′s) but its a total delight to watch and one of the few movies that I could watch over and over again!

Astrology. Hot or not?

I’m not 100% sure if I buy astrology, but I do like that when people who really believe in it explain to me that I can take whatever I want seriously and anything else with a grain of salt I am intrigued.

Susan Miller’s Astrology Zone has a whole write-up about these eclipses that have been happening in Capricorn and Cancer in the past 2 months and how they can be causing serious times of change and fluctuation. I know it’s the case for me, the past couple of months have been very busy, and exciting, stressful and sometimes overwhelming and maybe the universe is somewhat to “blame”.

Anyway, as I said, I don’t really know my thoughts on the whole truth behind astrology but this stuff is very intriguing!

Thank Amma it’s Friday

I finally met Amma this week and got a hug from her. She is an amazing humanitarian and has such a large following of truly fascinating people.

I make lists in my sleep

Jazzi McG's 'Confessions of an Intern' Notebook

I have been making lists for years. When I have a lot on my plate I always find it calming to stop everything, find a pen and paper and jot down everything I have running through my mind. Lately though my lists have departed from the norm; groceries, household chore, things to purchase on my next shopping spree, and have moved into more serious territory.

Things I am looking for in a man:
A man who buys me flowers
A man who will read in bed with me
A man who is willing to love and be loved
A man who’s not afraid to laugh out loud, or cry
A man who is okay with sharing: thoughts, dreams, goals and clothes!

Things I want to accomplish before the end of the summer:
Go to some estate sales for jewelry, art and furniture
Buy new paints and all together update my art bin
Spend a day reading in the park
Design the outline for my book and begin writing
Lose the last remaining pounds stopping me from fitting into my uber skinny shorts

I think lists are just fun reminders of things we want, what we are thinking about and what we should strive for. And really, what’s the harm in jotting it all down? If I end up not being able to cross everything off the list I can just make a new one and set a new deadline — the only pressure is the pressure you put on yourself

This is your brain on shoes

I purchased my first ever pair of Christian Louboutin shoes, at a time when I absolutely can’t actually afford them — I feel like it’s the only time I would really have the balls to splurge, even though they were still on sale at Neiman Marcus.

As much pain as it was on my wallet, I am totally and completely in love. Now I am thinking that moving to a warmer climate might be just the ticket. That way I can get as much bang for my buck as possible and be able to wear them close to all year round. But for now, strutting down the New York City streets in them makes me very very happy. And they are actually pretty comfortable!

Make it or drop it?

I LOVE THIS IDEA. Finally I get a say in what is being added to the already saturated ‘contemporary furniture’ market. StyleFactory lets you do just that and I think it’s brilliant. Not only are they getting some of the best young designers to design new pieces but they are being eco, and budget, friendly by only making the pieces that voters decide are worth of manufacturing.

Right now I am all about the Eileen Lamp but not loving the Z Shelf. I think this is going to blow Ikea, CB2 and Design Within Reach all out of the water. Crowd-sourcing. It’s so hot right now!

Blogs I love

I decided that if I’m sharing weekly religious figures I should start highlighting blogs that I love to read. I read those blogs on a daily basis and am constantly linking to them because of their amazing writing and photos.

I am addicted to Because I’m Addicted — a playful, artistic, fashionable, and all around eccentric lifestyle blog by Geri Hirsch. You know she’s a big deal because she even has her own tank, designed by Danny Roberts for Forever 21!

Other than the fact that we both posted about OPI colors in the same week , Geri’s blog is one of my favorites because of the variety of things she writes about. Earlier this year she was sent to Russia for Fashion Week in Moscow, she’s in the midst of taking cooking classes and sharing recipes, and when she shares her outfits I always feel inspired.

It’s not just that the content of Geri’s site is compelling, it’s compelling because it gives me the sense that I know who she really is.  Maybe this is simply my addiction speaking, but her writing seems honest; it’s funny and she can be incredibly detailed — I’m guessing this is what she’s really like in person. Geri, let’s be friends*!

*I mean that in the least creepy way possible!
