Omnipresent products

For years now we have been calling anything that you put on your lips, that isn’t lipstick, chapstick — but that’s a brand name. Same with BandAid’s, Ziplock and in my mother’s case, Kleenex.

More recently it has been the case that some of the brands we use all the time have become verbs: “I’ll Google it” or “I Swiffer-ed the floor.”, etc…..

Ok, I’ll get to my point…

Febreze.

They have some of the worst commercials in the world, by far, because they simply don’t realize how universal their product has become.

The ad says “we need to wash it” — meaning that the smell of the room is so bad that it needs to be cleaned. What I don’t understand is why P&G isn’t taking advantage of the fact that, in this country at least, people commonly use Febreze as a verb! If they were smart, they would use this to their advantage and say “we need to Febreze it!” instead of implying that someone should wash their room — who would even say that?! Wouldn’t they just say clean?!

P&G, this is my second brilliant idea — check out my Swiffer commercial pitch.  Call me!

Blogs I love

I decided that if I’m sharing weekly religious figures I should start highlighting blogs that I love to read. I read these blogs on a daily basis and am constantly linking to them because of their amazing writing and photos.

I had the good fortune of meeting Joanna during the YSL Experience Parisienne perfume campaign and have been an avid follower of ‘A Cup of Jo‘ ever since.

Joanna and her husband just had their first baby, Toby, and she is currently away on maternity leave. But while she is away she has a whole slew of guest bloggers sharing their favorite things from the web.

When Joanna is writing, her blog covers everything — fabulous photos from Edward Mapplethorpe, great recipes and weekly giveaways ranging from lingerie to jewelry, letterpress goodies to handbags.

I love Joanna’s blog because I believe it is a true reflection of who she is. I don’t know her very well personally, but I feel like I do when I read her posts. She’s full of life and incredibly creative, she has the inside scoop and she always seems to have the earliest post about the hottest trends!

Just a little Thursday Zen

via http://www.susannahconway.com by Christina Sbarro

Life is made up of tiny, little opportunistic gems that are given to us to take and make our own. Deaths, break-ups, jobs, broken finger nails, botched haircuts — just ab0ut anything that seems like the most devastating thing in the world (at the time) is actually life’s way of shining new light on a new path that provides you with the chance to do whatever you want from there…

Life has not always been easy for me, but I guess it comes with the territory of being a combination of very outspoken and open emotionally. For me, when life got hard recently, I fell into the lap of Reiki, and that has changed my life. I also started painting and writing and for the first time I am starting to look at those activities as more than just creative outlets, maybe there is a future there for me.

I guess what I am trying to say is that as heartbreaking as the hardest things you encounter may be, there really always is a silver lining (however small or hard to see as it may be). I want my life to be about taking advantage of each silver lining I come in contact with and using that moment to create new lives and new paths for myself that will make me a better, happier and more fulfilled person.

Picture 2

I keep seeing these pictures of peoples’ apartments, dorm rooms, bedrooms, etc. with these different words spelled out in big letters. While I think words like ‘live’ and ‘love’, ‘peace’, ‘happiness’, ‘joy’, ‘friends’ and ‘family’ are all great words, they do nothing for me in terms of motivation. Instead I have decided to take the road less traveled, as I so often do, and choose words that mean something to me but little to others (in fact I get many questions from people about what the word in my living room even means!)

Moxie (spelled out in my living room)

–noun Slang.

1.     vigor; verve; pep.

2.     courage and aggressiveness; nerve.

3.     skill; know-how.

Gumption (hanging over my bed)

–noun Informal.

1.     initiative; aggressiveness; resourcefulness: With his gumption he’ll make a success of himself.

2.     courage; spunk; guts: It takes gumption to quit a high-paying job.

3.     common sense; shrewdness.

Wedding wears

This is what I ended up wearing to the wedding. It was a last minute purchase and I absolutely fell in love with it. There was a Tibi dress that I found back in January that I was sure I was going to wear to the wedding but couldn’t find it anywhere. This Caracas printed silk dress was perfect for light and breezy wedding Noah and Leila had, and looked great while I busted some moves on the dance floor!  Wedding pictures soon to come.
